An active shooter incident occurred at the Temple Israel Synagogue in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan, resulting in the death of an unidentified individual. This event involved a vehicle ramming and subsequent gunfire exchange, as confirmed by authorities.

The Oakland Sheriff’s department reported that a vehicle collision occurred at the synagogue, which also functions as an early learning center. Following the collision, the driver exchanged gunfire with security personnel on site.

The suspect was discovered deceased in the vehicle, which subsequently caught fire. The specific cause of death is currently undetermined. One member of the security team sustained injuries from the vehicle collision and was hospitalized. No other injuries have been reported.

Authorities are continuing to inspect the area for potential explosives.

Video footage captured a significant police presence and visible smoke at the scene. The Jewish Federation of Detroit advised community members to avoid the area and reported that local Jewish agencies were under precautionary lockdown.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that the President had been briefed on the situation. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer expressed concern over the incident, emphasizing the right of the Jewish community to practice their faith peacefully.

Law enforcement officials noted that a general alert had been issued for sensitive locations due to heightened tensions but confirmed no specific threats against the synagogue were identified.

The Temple Israel Synagogue was founded in 1941 and currently serves approximately 12,000 members, according to its website.
