The village of Mukhmas, northeast of occupied East Jerusalem, witnessed this attack where Israeli settlers reportedly stole numerous sheep from local residents. This event is part of a broader pattern of violence in Palestinian areas, with settlers and Israeli forces often acting in conjunction, according to Mu’ayyad Sha’ban, head of the Palestinian Authority’s Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission.
Sha’ban has called for international protection for Palestinian communities, highlighting that settlers have killed 37 Palestinians in the West Bank since October 2023. Despite the increase in violence, he emphasized that Palestinians remain committed to retaining their land.
The governorate of Jerusalem described the incident as a crime executed under the protection of Israeli forces. This violence is seen as part of a larger trend involving the use of live ammunition and direct attacks on Palestinians, along with property damage and land seizures.

Reports indicate that armed settler violence is supported by certain Israeli government officials. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has documented more than 1,000 Palestinian deaths and over 10,000 displacements in the West Bank since 2023.
This year alone, nearly 700 Palestinians have been displaced due to settler violence, including significant displacements in the Jericho governorate. Additionally, the Israeli government has approved a plan to designate large areas of the West Bank as Israeli state property, shifting the burden of proof onto Palestinians to prove land ownership, a move criticized internationally as undermining Palestinian rights.
The escalation in Israeli military operations includes increased raids, forced evictions, home demolitions, and other measures across the West Bank.
