Residents of Gaza are experiencing Ramadan amidst significant challenges. The traditional observance of the Muslim holy month is overshadowed by ongoing conflict and survival concerns, with reports of daily ceasefire violations.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza reports that since October 2023, conflict has resulted in 72,061 fatalities and 171,715 injuries. Infrastructure damage and widespread displacement have compounded the difficulties faced by the population. Economic hardship is prevalent, as noted by local residents who express concerns over financial constraints during Ramadan.

Adverse winter conditions have exacerbated the situation, with extreme temperatures and flooding impacting displacement camps and structurally compromised buildings. These conditions have resulted in additional casualties and hardships.

Despite the challenges, some efforts to maintain Ramadan traditions continue. In Khan Younis, local calligrapher Hani Dahman has created decorations among the ruins, aiming to uplift the community. Residents have noted the positive impact of these simple gestures on the local atmosphere.
