United States forces have conducted a series of strikes against ISIL targets in Syria, in response to the previous year's attack that resulted in the deaths of two soldiers and an interpreter.

According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), the operations took place between February 3 and 12, targeting over 30 ISIL locations with precision munitions. These strikes focused on the group's infrastructure and weapons storage facilities.

CENTCOM stated that the objective of these recent attacks was to maintain continuous military pressure on ISIL remnants.

In December, ISIL engaged US and Syrian forces near Palmyra, leading to the deaths of Sergeant Edgar Brian Torres-Tovar, Sergeant William Nathaniel Howard, and Ayad Mansoor Sakat, an American civilian interpreter.

Operation Hawkeye, launched following these events, has resulted in the death and capture of more than 50 fighters and the destruction of approximately 100 ISIL infrastructure targets over the past two months, as reported by CENTCOM.

On Friday, the US military completed the transfer of thousands of ISIL detainees from Syria to Iraq, where they are expected to face trial. This transfer was requested by the Iraqi government and supported by the US-led coalition.

The Syrian Ministry of Defence has confirmed that government forces have assumed control of the al-Tanf military base, previously operated by US troops. This move is part of the Syrian government's efforts to regain control over all of its territory.

The US-led coalition has historically collaborated with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to defeat ISIL in Syria, achieving territorial success in 2019. However, Washington has indicated that its alliance with the SDF is nearing completion as it reassesses its strategic objectives in the region.
