The Syrian Ministry of Defence confirmed the transition of control on Sun, Oct 15, 2023, stating that the Syrian Arab Army has coordinated with the United States regarding this strategic move.
The United States had maintained operations at al-Shaddadi since 2016, following its capture from ISIL (ISIS) by Kurdish-led forces. Additionally, the Syrian army has taken control of the US base at al-Tanf, located near the border with Iraq and Jordan.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio mentioned that the implementation of the ceasefire agreement is progressing positively.
