The Kurdish forces in Syria have finalized an agreement with the government for integration into the Syrian army. This development follows recent conflicts in the north of the country between the interim government in Damascus and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), aiming to consolidate national control after the overthrow of Bashir al-Assad in December 2024.
A ceasefire initiated over the past week has led to this integration agreement, as confirmed by an SDF statement on Friday. Syrian state television has also reported that the agreement will be implemented immediately.
In recent weeks, the Syrian army has captured significant territories in the north and northeast from the SDF, bolstering the leadership of President Ahmed al-Sharaa. Previous negotiations aimed at merging military and political entities had been unsuccessful.

Forces will withdraw from front lines. Government units will deploy to the centers of Hasakah and Qamishli. Local security forces will be integrated.
