Reports indicate that Russia has initiated the withdrawal of its military forces from north-eastern Syria, a region currently under the control of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
Government troops under President Ahmed al-Sharaa have recently taken control of significant areas in northern and eastern Syria from the SDF, seeking to consolidate authority across the nation.
A ceasefire agreement between the government forces and the SDF has been extended for an additional 15 days, as of Saturday.
According to SDF personnel stationed at a base near Qamishli airport, Russian forces have been relocating their equipment over recent days. While the destination of this equipment remains unclear, possibilities include the Hmeimim air base in Latakia or Russia.
