An Arab human rights non-governmental organization (NGO) has requested the imposition of United Kingdom sanctions against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The request is based on allegations of “incitement to violence and genocide against Palestinians” in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
The British law firm Deighton Pierce Glynn submitted the request on behalf of the Arab Organisation for Human Rights UK (AOHR UK) to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. The submission seeks targeted financial and travel sanctions against the Israeli leader.
The submission outlines reasonable grounds for sanctions, citing Netanyahu's previous statements rejecting a Palestinian state and using "religiously framed genocidal rhetoric," including biblical references to the destruction of 'Amalek.' In Jewish tradition, "Amalek" symbolizes pure evil and is used by the Israeli far right to justify the mass annihilation of Palestinians.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 71,551 people have been killed and 171,372 others wounded since Israel commenced its military actions in October 2023. A United Nations inquiry last year found that statements from Netanyahu and Israel's leadership amounted to "incitement to commit genocide" in Gaza during the conflict.

The submission further argues for sanctions on Netanyahu due to his responsibility for “unlawful military operations in Gaza” as the highest-ranking official in the country. Additionally, it highlights his role in the expansion of illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank, which have received condemnation from the UK.
Mohammed Jamil, the chairman of AOHR UK, emphasized the need for accountability, stating that it is inconsistent to sanction ministers while exempting the prime minister, who is responsible for authorizing and directing the policies in question.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants in November 2023 for Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of "crimes against humanity and war crimes" committed from October 8, 2023, to May 20, 2024. Concurrently, Israel is facing a case at the International Court of Justice following South Africa's accusation of genocide during the Gaza conflict.
