Conflict Resolution in Aleppo's Kurdish Neighbourhoods

Residents of a Kurdish neighbourhood in Aleppo have navigated government checkpoints to return to their homes, encountering significant damage including blackened walls, burned-out vehicles, and streets littered with debris.

On Sunday, residents returned after several days of intense clashes that began on Tuesday. The fighting erupted due to stalled negotiations between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) concerning the integration of the SDF into the national army. This conflict resulted in dozens of casualties and the displacement of approximately 155,000 individuals, as reported by Syrian authorities.

By Sunday, government forces had reestablished full control over the affected areas, following an agreement to relocate SDF fighters to Kurdish autonomous regions in northeastern Syria.

The United Nations is actively working to deliver additional convoys to the neighbourhoods, providing essential supplies such as food, fuel, and blankets to address urgent needs.
