The Colombian government is implementing measures in response to recent geopolitical developments in Venezuela. Following United States military actions and the abduction of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, Colombia is preparing for a potential influx of refugees.
Defense Minister Pedro Sanchez announced the deployment of 30,000 soldiers to the Venezuelan border to enhance security. Additionally, emergency measures have been enacted to support potential refugees. Security forces are on high alert to prevent any retaliation from armed groups operating near the border.
At the Simon Bolivar International Bridge, normal vehicle and foot traffic continues despite the increased military presence. Colombian intelligence has indicated that armed groups may attempt to return to Colombia, as their security in Venezuela could be compromised.
