A medical source at al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City confirmed the death of the child, identified as Youssef Ahmed al-Shandaghli, in the Jabalia an-Nazla area.
The exact circumstances of the incident remain unclear. Despite a U.S.-brokered ceasefire in effect since October, hostilities continue in Gaza, resulting in over 400 Palestinian fatalities and numerous injuries. Restrictions on aid deliveries have exacerbated living conditions in the region, which has suffered extensive infrastructural damage.
Reports indicate further casualties, including a young girl in the Nuseirat refugee camp who succumbed to cold weather. Additionally, the Palestinian Civil Defence reported the recovery of a mother and child’s bodies after a fire in a tent sheltering displaced persons in Gaza City.
Many Palestinian families reside in overcrowded displacement camps and makeshift shelters due to the destruction of their homes. The United Nations and humanitarian organizations have called for the easing of restrictions on aid, emphasizing the need for essential supplies like tents and blankets to mitigate the effects of harsh winter conditions.
