According to the electoral authority, the CNE, Asfura received 40.3% of the vote, narrowly defeating center-right Liberal Party candidate Salvador Nasralla, who garnered 39.5% of the votes. The left-wing candidate, Rixi Moncada, received less than 20% of the votes.
In a brief statement, Asfura expressed his readiness to govern. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also extended congratulations, emphasizing that Washington anticipates working with Asfura.
