The Ministry of Health in Gaza has reported significant shortages in drugs, medical consumables, and laboratory supplies, impacting the provision of diagnostic and treatment services. These shortages have arisen in the context of ongoing conflict and restrictions on medical supplies entering the region.
The Health Ministry has detailed the following shortages:
Essential medicines: 321 items completely out of stock, representing a 52% shortage. Medical consumables: 710 items completely out of stock, representing a 71% shortage. Laboratory tests and blood bank supplies: 59% shortage.
Critical shortages are noted in emergency services, including life-saving intravenous solutions, antibiotics, and painkillers. This situation potentially affects 200,000 patients in need of emergency care, 100,000 in need of surgical services, and 700 requiring intensive care.
Additional shortages are affecting services related to kidney care, oncology, open-heart surgery, and orthopedics. Due to the limited entry of medical supplies, the Ministry of Health is appealing for emergency interventions from relevant parties.
