Integration of Syrian Democratic Forces
The US is supporting initiatives to integrate the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) with the Syrian government. The SDF, which controls significant portions of northeastern Syria, functions with de facto autonomy. Despite a March agreement aimed at merging SDF fighters into Syrian state structures, occasional conflicts have persisted.
Successful integration of SDF with Syrian government forces is expected to create a more stable security environment, according to Cooper.

Although ISIL controlled large areas in Syria and Iraq from 2014 to 2019, remnants of the group still pose a threat. The US has maintained troops in Syria, although the Trump administration announced a reduction in bases and personnel earlier this year.
The US military will continue to support US envoy Tom Barrack in advancing goals for a prosperous Middle East and a stable Syria. Cooper expressed gratitude to Syrian authorities for their role in intercepting weapons intended for Hezbollah in Lebanon, highlighting the benefits of close collaboration with Syrian forces.
Additionally, Cooper acknowledged ongoing Israeli military activities in southern Syria but did not address them directly in his recent statements. He concluded with optimism about the potential for continued progress and cooperation in the region.
