According to the Israeli military, the Red Cross has taken custody of the coffin and is currently facilitating its transport to Israeli troops in Gaza. This action is part of a United States-brokered ceasefire that commenced on Tue, Oct 10, 2023. Under this agreement, Hamas committed to returning the bodies of all 28 deceased captives, with 16 remains handed over as of Monday.
The truce also facilitated the release of 20 surviving captives on Fri, Oct 13, 2023. Despite the ceasefire, some families are urging the Israeli government to reconsider the truce if Hamas fails to locate and return all the bodies.
Hamas negotiator Khalil al-Hayya cited difficulties in locating the bodies due to changes in the terrain of Gaza, asserting that some individuals responsible for the burials may have perished or forgotten the locations. In response, Israel has allowed an Egyptian technical team to enter Gaza to assist in locating the bodies using excavation equipment.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Israel's recent operations against a member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group do not constitute a ceasefire violation, citing an imminent threat to Israeli forces.
Approximately 473,000 individuals have returned to northern Gaza since the truce began, facing substantial property damage and shortages of essential resources such as food and water. Younis al-Khatib, head of the Palestine Red Crescent Society, has emphasized the urgent need for humanitarian aid and mental health support for Gaza's population.
The World Health Organization has highlighted an increase in the demand for mental health services in Gaza, with over one million individuals now requiring support. UNICEF has reported that nearly all children in the region are affected, describing Gaza as "the most dangerous place in the world to be a child" over the past two years, with widespread loss and trauma experienced by the young population.
