According to Palestinian sources, the 28-year-old journalist was shot by members of an armed militia while covering clashes in the Sabra neighborhood. Al Jazeera’s Sanad agency verified footage showing Aljafarawi's body, identified by a "press" flak jacket, on what appeared to be the back of a truck. Aljafarawi had been missing since Sun, Oct 5, 2025.
Clashes reportedly involved Hamas security forces and fighters from the Doghmush clan, although this is yet to be confirmed by local authorities. A senior source from Gaza’s Ministry of Interior stated that the clashes involved a militia affiliated with the Israeli occupation. Security forces imposed a siege on the militia, and it was reported that militia members killed displaced individuals returning to Gaza City.

Despite the recent ceasefire, local authorities have indicated that the security situation in Gaza remains precarious. Aljafarawi, who was displaced from northern Gaza, had previously shared experiences of threats due to his work as a journalist.
To date, the ongoing conflict has resulted in the deaths of over 270 media workers in Gaza since the start of hostilities in October 2023. Aljafarawi’s death coincides with a ceasefire that has held for three days, preceding an anticipated hostage-prisoner exchange.
The United States President is scheduled to meet with other world leaders on Mon, Oct 13, 2025, in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, for a summit co-hosted by Egypt’s President. The summit aims to address the conflict in the Gaza Strip and promote peace and stability in the Middle East. As per the Egyptian president’s office, a document to formally end the conflict is expected to be signed, although representatives from Israel and Hamas will not present.
