Tens of thousands of individuals participated in a pro-Palestinian demonstration in London, expressing cautious optimism regarding a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, now in its second day.

Ben Jamal, director of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, expressed relief shared with the Palestinian people while also voicing concerns about the durability of the ceasefire, citing historical violations by Israel.

Participants, wearing black and white keffiyeh scarves and carrying signs, gathered along the River Thames in central London. The demonstration was largely peaceful, though police removed several counter-protesters.

UK authorities have increased restrictions on pro-Palestinian demonstrations, with recent events resulting in numerous arrests. The government is seeking to expand police powers to further regulate such gatherings.

The ongoing conflict has resulted in significant casualties and a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with famine conditions reported in certain areas. Concerns about the ceasefire's longevity persist among demonstrators.

Further protests are planned across Europe, including in Berlin and Sydney, as global solidarity with Palestine continues.
