Trump and Netanhayu agree to new US peace plan to end war in Gaza

Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has agreed to a 20-point peace proposal initiated by US President Donald Trump to address the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

While it remains uncertain whether Hamas will endorse the proposal, diplomatic sources indicate that the group's negotiating team is currently evaluating it.

In Washington, on Mon, Netanyahu referred to the proposal as a significant step towards resolving the conflict and promoting peace in the Middle East.

Netanyahu stated, "I support your plan to end the war on Gaza, which achieves our war aims. It will bring back to Israel all our hostages, dismantle Hamas's military capabilities, end its political rule, and ensure that Gaza never again poses a threat to Israel."

The proposal has received support from several Arab and European countries, as well as the Palestinian Authority.

During a joint press conference with Netanyahu, Trump mentioned that they were "beyond very close" to reaching a peace agreement for the Palestinian enclave.

Trump noted, "We're not quite finished. We have to get Hamas, but I think they're going to be able to do that. So now it's time for Hamas to accept the terms of the plan that we've put forward today."

Trump also warned that if Hamas rejects the deal, Israel would have the full support of Washington to "finish the job of destroying the threat of Hamas."

The plan does not require the relocation of people from Gaza.

According to Israeli reports, Hamas-led fighters killed approximately 1,200 individuals and captured 251 hostages during the attack on Israel on Sat, Oct 7, 2023.

Gaza's health authorities report that more than 66,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israel's subsequent assault.
